Blah, blah, blah...

What is BellyJelly Music™?

BellyJelly is based on the most common mispronunciation of my name, Bill Jehle. How do you say it? Well, you don't really. You just spell it out for people. Seriously though, with an American accent it's pronounced YAY-LEE. With a German accent it's more of YAY-LAH.

BellyJelly Music™ is the record label that I started in 2003 to sell my works. The beginning was quite a challenge, costly, and frustrating, but after my first year I couldn't believe that I didn't do this before.

Ongoing projects that I don't have time to work on but do anyway...

  • MORE "HOW TO BUILD A GUITAR" VIDEOS
After all of the comments and feedback on How to Build a Guitar, I'm working on a sequel with more projects, better video, and just more, more, more! Some of the comments that I'm working on so far:
    • A how to play a cigar box guitar, how to tune them, and so on.
    • A simple hand-tools only building project.
    • A more ambitious electric hybrid 6-string cigar box guitar project.
    • A "build-your-own-box" guitar as the ultimate made from scratch guitar.

  • A HISTORY OF THE CIGAR BOX GUITAR AND OTHER ODDITIES
It's what I call Detritomusicology. There's a lot of information that I've collected on topics that overlap from the history of paper and publishing, to the industrialization and production of commodity goods, to waste reuse and recycling. There's so much more to cigar box guitars than I ever imagined.  It's amazing that a $25 guitar changed the way that I look at the world.

  • DIGITAL ELECTRONICS PROJECTS FOR GUITARISTS
Just because I play cigar box guitars, doesn't mean that my mad scientist skills are going to waste. Thinking along the same lines as the "How to Build a Guitar" series, I thought it would be a great idea to walk guitarists through the process of building their own digital effects. There is so much to do here that I don't know when I'll get to it... Perhaps after...

  • BUILDING THE JEHLE GUITAR AMP
Okay Pytor, this one is for you. Fitting in the middle of the road in terms of the guitars I make and the electronics that I tinker with, building a tube amp with discarded and reused radio parts is the next thing in line.  I could just have you make one for me (and I may still), but I'm going to try to resurrect some old radios from the 1940's first. Plans for world domination come next...

  • MORE CIGAR BOX GUITARS
With a growing list of orders from professional guitarists, national disk jockeys, and just plain folks that want something unique as the music they play, I have my work set out for me already. They still sell faster than I can make them. It's a nice problem to have really. Bring it on!

  • THE MUSEUM PROJECT
I'm shooting for the moon on this one. My idea is to build a guitar completely from discarded objects - an entire guitar made for free. Then that guitar will be put on display in a museum, untouchable and unplayable.  It's either that or I have to buy a PRS Dragon and send it through a wood chipper and display the remains in a clear box.  The effect is the same, but the first idea is a lot cheaper. :)
Funny thing is, I now own The Cigar Box Guitar Museum! This was supposed to be really hard to do!

  • DIY CNC PROJECT
I had a great idea recently and started looking around for how to get it made for me. The cost for making a prototype was expensive, as much as buying a CNC machine. Why not just buy a CNC machine? Well cheap ones cost a thousand bucks, that's why not! But hey, I make guitars out of cigar boxes. I know how to make something from nothing. Why not make a CNC machine out of stuff I've got laying around?

Stay tuned...
